ABSTRACT OF PAPER

Title of Paper:
Th Arab Spring: A view for the Arab Gulf States

Paper Proposal Text :
This paper surveys the impact of the epochal events of the year 2011 on the Arab Gulf States (AGS). The paper argues that the Arab Spring has affirmed both the normal and the exceptional nature of the states and exposed the inner strength as well as the fundamental weakness of the Arab Gulf States. It points out that initially, the Arab spring was inspirational for the younger generation and the emerging Khaleeji capital and middle class . Eventually, it lost some of its early zest as it got bloody and nasty in many places including the tragic case of Bahrain. But one year into the Arab Spring the public mood in the AGS remains essentially one of reform. No one in the AGS is questioning the legitimacy of the Gulf monarchies or calling for changing the existing regime. However, while there is no room for revolution, everybody recognizes that political reform is urgently needed and can\\\\\\\'t be postponed for too long in the AGS .
