ABSTRACT OF PAPER

Title of Paper:
Demand-Side Management Potential in Households in UAE

Paper Proposal Text :
Gulf countries public water supply is the most energy intensive water in the world. Annual growth of water demand is in excess of 10% pa, requiring a larger and larger part of fossil fuels. The presentation demonstrates the savings in electricity from more efficient home appliances combing the savings in water and the savings in electricity for refrigerators, washing machines and airconditioners. Sales data for UAE in 2010 is analysed to estimate the average efficiency and the best in class efficiency. The energy savings are estimated and the additional income from increased fossil fuel experts established. In addition the value of CO2 certificates from the UNFCCC’s CDM is calculated. New sales of the three appliance classes amount to 464,000 tCO2e/y.
Finally the rebates currently in vigour in Demand-Side Management in California are compared to the income accruing to additional exports from fossil fuels and CO2 certificates in order to establish what level of rebates are adequate for UAE. Recommendations for DSM programme designs are proposed.
